[Intro]

If you’re ready to stop chasing approval and start living in the truth of the gospel, you’re in the right place.

Now here’s Billy McDonald with Grace uncensored.

Hey friends—welcome back to Grace Uncensored, the podcast where shame loses its grip and freedom finally feels real.

I’m Billy McDonald, and I’m so glad you’re here.

Before we dive in, let me ask a small favor—if this podcast has been helpful for you, would you hit subscribe, leave a quick comment, or share it with a friend? That’s how more people discover what grace really looks like.
Now let’s get into it.

Let me ask you something today:
How do you deal with shame… especially when you’ve got a past?
We all carry things we wish we could erase. Mistakes. Regrets. Moments we hope no one ever finds out about. And even though we know God forgives us, shame still whispers: “You’re not really clean.”
But here’s the truth—grace doesn’t just forgive sin.
It silences shame.

Think about the courtroom of your mind—that accusing voice that keeps replaying your failures.
Romans 8:33–34 says:
“Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.? Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us”
Did you catch that?
If God—the Judge—is the one who justifies you… then who’s left to accuse you?
Not your past.
Not your critics.
Not even your inner voice.
The verdict is in. You are fully justified. Not guilty. Forever free.

Now, shame loves to tell you that you’re just a slightly improved version of who you used to be. That maybe you’ve got a new shirt over the same old scars.
But the gospel says otherwise.
2 Corinthians 5:17:
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”
Not “renovated.”
Not “patched up.”
New.
You’re not a fixed-up failure.
You’re a brand-new creation in Christ.

And here’s something else shame doesn’t want you to believe:
God doesn’t just tolerate you. He celebrates you.
Zephaniah 3:17 says:
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a victorious warrior. He will rejoice over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.”
Did you catch that?
God is delighting in you.
He’s singing over you.
You’re not barely accepted—you’re deeply enjoyed.

And then there’s Jesus in John 8.
A woman is caught in adultery. Dragged into the dirt. Surrounded by religious leaders with stones in their hands. Shaming her and ready to kill her according to the Old Covenant Law.
And Jesus? Scribbling something in the dirt that sent those religious leaders heading for the hills,
said to her, ‘Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?’ She said, ‘No one, Lord.’ And Jesus said, ‘I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on do not sin any longer.’” (John 8:10–11)
He doesn’t hurl stones.
He doesn’t deliver a lecture.
He delivers freedom.
He silences the crowd.
Then He silences her shame.

Illustration: The Broken Mirror
I want you to picture this with me.
You’re standing in front of a mirror that’s shattered. Cracked all over. And every time you look, all you can see is distortion—it makes you look like you’re full of flaws.
That’s what shame does. It twists your reflection into a lie.
But Jesus steps in, picks up that broken mirror, and tosses it aside.
And He says, “Look at Me. You’re whole. No more flaws.”
So stop staring at the broken reflection.
Start seeing your new self – that new Creation he made you.

So how do you silence shame once and for all?
• You trust God’s verdict: not guilty.
• You remember you’re a new creation—not a cleaned-up version of the old you.
• You believe you’re delighted in—not barely accepted.
• And you listen to Jesus when He says, “I do not condemn you.”
You are not what you’ve done.
You are who He says you are.
And that will never change.
