Grace Uncensored with Billy McDonald
YOU’RE A NEW CREATION... WITH TWO NATURES?
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Are Christians really born again with two competing natures, one sinful and one righteous?
What does the Bible actually mean by the flesh, the old self, and the new creation?
Discover what your identity in Christ means for temptation, sin, spiritual growth, and everyday life.
Many Christians have been taught that after salvation they have two natures living inside them.
An old sinful nature that wants sin.
And a new righteous nature that wants God.
But if your old self was crucified with Christ, the old has gone, and you’re now a new creation, is that really what happened?
In Episode 60 of Grace Uncensored, Billy McDonald takes a closer look at the difference between your old self and the flesh.
The struggle with temptation is real.
Old habits are real.
Fleshly thinking is real.
But does any of that mean there’s still an old sinful person living inside you?
Or are you one new creation in Christ who’s learning to live from the new identity God has already given you?
This distinction can completely change how you respond to temptation, failure, condemnation, and spiritual growth.
You’re not trying to become new.
You’re learning to live from what Jesus has already made true.
SCRIPTURES FROM THIS EPISODE
Romans 6:6
Our old self was crucified with Christ so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. Paul describes the old self as crucified, not improved, restrained, or left alive alongside the new self.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The old has gone and the new has come. Salvation isn’t simply adding Jesus to the old person. God makes us new.
Galatians 5:16–17
Paul describes the conflict between the flesh and the Spirit. The struggle is real, but Paul calls it flesh versus Spirit, not an old sinful nature versus a new righteous nature.
Colossians 3:9–10
Believers have taken off the old self and put on the new self. Our thinking and behavior continue to be renewed, but our new identity in Christ is already ours.
Romans 8:9
Believers are not in the realm of the flesh but in the realm of the Spirit because the Spirit of God lives in us. A Christian may act according to fleshly thinking without the flesh becoming his or her identity.
1 Corinthians 6:17
Whoever is united with the Lord is one with Him in spirit. The believer’s deepest spiritual identity is union with Christ, not a divided identity between an old self and a new self.
